Deltona Woman Says She Shot Her Husband In Self-Defense

Deltona, FL – A Deltona man is dead after his wife, 47-year-old Michelle Benz, said she shot him in self-defense. She told deputies that 35-year-old Kyle Benz punched and choked her several times on Saturday, leading her to pull a gun from her purse and fire at him multiple times. (Note: Kyle Benz’s name was Kyle Gambill prior to legally changing to his wife’s last name in 2020.) Michelle Benz reported the shooting and deputies arrived at 2801 Bluestone Drive shortly after 1 p.m. Kyle Benz was pronounced deceased at the scene. Cooperating with the investigation, Michelle recounted past incidents of domestic violence that she said were never reported. She was transported to AdventHealth Fish Memorial Hospital in Orange City for treatment after complaining of a jaw injury from the attack. Michelle Benz is not facing charges at this time as detectives process evidence and conduct interviews.
