Seville, FL – A Seville woman is facing child neglect charges after a Department of Children & Families investigator found her four children, all under age 9, home alone without adult supervision since the previous day. Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) deputies were called to the home by investigators on Wednesday (Nov. 3). The investigator told deputies that they kept hearing small children inside the home but nobody would answer the door. It wasn’t until two hours later that a family friend arrived and got the children to respond. The friend told deputies she came to the home out of concern because she had not been to the house, nor seen or heard from the children’s mother, 25-year-old Rosaura Sanchez, all day. According to the VSO, deputies described the living conditions of the home and yard as extremely poor and unkempt. The children were also dirty, wearing dirty clothes and appeared not to have been bathed in some time. In addition, deputies noted that the yard of the home has no fence, despite the home sitting off of a busy roadway and near a train track that’s used by fast-moving freight and passenger trains. The oldest child, age 9, told investigators he did not know where their mother was and had not seen her since the day before. He added that he was the only one taking care of the children, ages 6, 2 and 1. Sanchez arrived home later that day and told deputies her friend had been there to watch the children in the morning. The friend then refuted Sanchez’s statement and left the scene, stating she did not want to be involved. She has since been arrested and charged with four counts of child neglect. She remains in the Volusia County Branch Jail as she awaits her first appearance in front of a judge.
