First Step Shelter Qualifies For CARES Act Funding

Daytona Beach, FL – The First Step Shelter is eligible for almost $1.1 million in CARES Act funding. Director Dr. Victoria Fahlberg applied for the grant money and Board member Chase Tramont says the next step is to go before the Volusia County Council at their regular meeting next Tuesday (September 15). During their meeting yesterday, Tramont says he believes that First Step Shelter got all of the funding that was asked for. Dr. Fahlberg will make the presentation to the VCC. The Safe Zone was also on yesterday’s agenda. Tramont says the construction of it is nearly complete. The rules and regulations that the Board has come up with will need to be approved by the Daytona Beach City Commission. Tramont says that he knows that Daytona Mayor Derrick Henry has invited Dr. Fahlberg to present the information. That presentation could be on the September 23 agenda but could be delayed until the first meeting in October.
