Daytona Beach Shores, FL - A woman is saved from a burning vehicle after crashing in Daytona Beach Shores, but ends up leaving the scene of the accident anyway in another car. That happened early Sunday morning (September 6th), during another day of Daytona Beach’s Labor Day truck event. According to the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety (DBSDPS), the woman, who was identified by police as 30-year-old Brianna Jean Burge, was headed north on A1A around 1:00 that morning in a 2020 Dodge Journey. At some point, police say Burge attempted to make a turn from the center turn lane and onto Atares Avenue. However, she did not yield for a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 18-year-old Jacob McRae, that was headed southbound on A1A at the time. That’s when McRae struck the front of Burge’s Dodge. She then spun out and came to a stop near the roadway as McRae’s Jeep hit a lightpole. After crashing, Burge’s vehicle caught on fire. Police say that’s when McRae came to Burge’s rescue and helped her out of the burning vehicle. But, after Burge thanked McRae for saving him, she left the scene in her boyfriend’s vehicle, according to the police report. Port Orange police later found a blue Ford Mustang traveling at a high-rate of speed on Clyde Morris Boulevard. After the officer stopped the vehicle, they found Burge in the passenger seat, who admitted to being involved in a traffic accident. She also claimed that her shoulder hurt because of the accident. As a result, Burge was transported to the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona from the scene of the traffic stop. Officers from Daytona Beach Shores later met Burge in the hospital to get her side of the story. She said she didn’t remember being hit, but she remembered being pulled out of her car by someone before she got into her boyfriend’s car, saying she was panicked and in pain. Burge was cited with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries failure to yield the right of way while turning. Meegan Wilmot, a detective and public information officer for Daytona Beach Shores police, said no physical arrest was made due to her receiving medical treatment at Halifax Health.
