Chief Judge Of 7th Judicial Circuit Takes Action To Slow The Spread Of COVID-19 In Courthouses

Daytona Beach, FL – Procedures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 are tightening up after Chief Circuit Judge James Clayton issued an order that applies to the entire 7th Judicial Circuit, which includes Volusia and Flagler. If you’re already on jury duty or have been summoned in the near future, you’ll still need to show up. The order states “physical distancing is mandated for all in-person court proceedings.” Face masks are required when social distancing is not available. During jury selection, everyone involved is required to wear a face covering.  If a potential juror is worried about exposure to COVID-19 they will be excused. Judges have the option of having jurors sit in the gallery where they can spread out more than in the jury box. Public access will be available through live streaming. Judge Clayton said he will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation saying that if the rate does not reverse, jury trials could be shut down.
