Port Orange Begins Search For New Police Chief

Port Orange, FL - The City of Port Orange has announced the start of a search to find the city’s next police chief. The search, headed by the Florida Police Chiefs Education and Research Foundation’s (FPCERF) Selection Training Assessment Recruitment Support (STARTS) program, will consist of a national advertisement that will run for 30 days. From there, the FPCERF will collect and review  candidate resumes, provide and analyze written screening questionnaires for short-listed candidates, and conduct a series of interviews before holding a public reception for the top candidates.  The city began this partnership with FPCERF after the foundation had selected former Chief of Police Thomas Grimaldi, who retired on June 11, out of 120 possible candidates back in 2015. Since Grimaldi’s departure, Deputy Police Chief William "Bill" Proctor has been serving as the department’s interim chief. "Chief Proctor brings significant experience and knowledge about the inner workings of the City’s Police Department with his 27 years in the division and serving as the Deputy Police Chief since 2016," said City Manager Wayne Clark. "We are confident in his abilities in continuing to move the police organization forward during the recruitment process."
