Palm Coast Teen Charged After Making Online Threats

Palm Coast, FL - A Flagler Palm Coast High student is now facing a felony charge after they threatened to shoot another student on Snapchat. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) says deputies were called to FPCHS on Thursday (May 27) after a report regarding the threat—which was made the day before—was submitted to the dean. A deputy who met with the reporting party, another juvenile student, said they were messaging the suspect, who deputies have identified as 14-year-old Julian Midgette, on Snapchat to ask if he planned on fighting another student that went to FPCHS. Midgette responded to the victim by telling her to "shut the (expletive) up and mind your own business," which led to the two arguing for the rest of the conversation. During the argument, Midgette reportedly said to the victim "Wanna talk (expletive) imma shoot yo ass to (sic)" and later stated in the same conversation "I will bitch it (I know) where you live." The victim told deputies that they were afraid of Midgette because he had pictures of him holding firearms posted on his Instagram. The victim’s mother then told deputies she wanted to pursue charges on her daughter’s behalf. Deputies later met with Midgette to question him about the incident with his father present on speakerphone. Midgette confirmed that he did have accounts on Snapchat and Instagram. He also admitted to having a conversation with the victim, but stated he did not remember what was said. When asked, Midgette said he did not own any firearms; but he did have an airsoft pistol. Midgette also advised that the firearms in his Instagram posts were his friend’s airsoft rifle, but the rifle in question did not have an orange tip. “In Flagler County, we do not take threats like this lightly,” Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly said. “I hope this young man will learn from this experience that making threats to hurt someone is not how you solve disputes." "Parents, I am again asking that you be the Sheriff in your home and monitor what your children are doing on social media," added Staly. Midgette was eventually arrested and charged with sending written threats to commit bodily injury; a second-degree felony in the State of Florida. Midgette was first processed at the Flagler County Jail before he was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Daytona Beach.
