DeLand Gas Station Shooting Under Investigation

A shooting at a DeLand gas station is currently under investigation by detectives with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the agency announced Friday. The incident occurred at the Circle K station on International Speedway Boulevard and Kepler Road. According to the VSO, the shooter is believed to be a 21-year-old male Pierson resident. One person was hit, said to be a 62-year-old man from DeLand who fortunately did not sustain life-threatening injuries. Neither man’s name was provided by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office in their initial reports on the shooting. The two men were said to be at a gas pump at the Circle K on Friday. Deputies were called to the scene at around 6:45 p.m. An argument reportedly ensued between the two, with things soon boiling over into a physical altercation. The shooter, who remained at the scene, told deputies he felt threatened and fired a shot without intending to kill the other man. The shot hit the man in the leg, which the shooter reportedly told the VSO was meant to prevent the altercation from escalating further. The man who was hit was taken to the hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition. So far, no charges have been announced by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
