Volusia County Schools Allocating $611,111 for Teacher Raises

Volusia County Schools has reached an agreement with Volusia United Educators on the allocation of funds for teacher salary increases. A total of $611,111 will be added to an existing $4 million to fund pay increases for local educators. “Our employees are the foundation of Volusia County Schools, and we remain committed to supporting and investing in the people who make a difference in the lives of students every day,” said Volusia Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin. “This agreement reflects our shared dedication to attracting and retaining outstanding educators by enhancing compensation for both new and experienced teachers.” The amount eligible teachers will see in salary increases is indexed by their years of experience. Teachers with 10 to 15 years can receive an $1,800 raise, followed by $2,200 for those with 16 to 20 years. Additional increases of $400 follow; teachers with 21 to 25 years of experience can receive a $2,600 raise, while those with 26 or more years can access an increase of $3,000. Employees who are eligible for these raises can access them by submitting their verification of Florida teaching experience to the school district’s human resources department by September 2, 2026 according to a district spokesperson. “We are grateful to our School Board, employees, families, students, and community partners for their continued support as we work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed,” Dr. Balgobin continued. According to 2024 data from World Population Review, Florida ranked 49th out of the 50 states in average teacher salary at $54,900. Their average teacher starting salary was 16th highest (excluding the District of Columbia), at $48,639. Meanwhile, Florida was listed with the 17th highest cost of living in the nation as of 2025. Data from Teacher.org lists that teacher salaries in Volusia County range on average from $30,160 for preschool teachers to $72,910 for PE teachers.
