Edgewater Man Arrested After Threats to South Causeway Bridge

An Edgewater man was arrested on Thursday for alleged threats against the South Causeway Bridge in New Smyrna Beach. 20-year-old Logan Cimms was charged with written threats to kill or do bodily injury. According to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, Cimms sent messages on Snapchat in which he spoke of plans to ‘compromise the structural integrity’ of the bridge. The person who reported the messages said she was shown screenshots by a friend. In the messages, Cimms reportedly told the other person, “Id recommend not walking that bridge for a while”. The friend inquired about why. At first Cimms was said to have claimed, “If I explain the Feds will be back at my door”. Later in the conversation, Cimms appeared to tell the other individual that the bridge needed legs to be stable, and that it would fall if the legs themselves weren’t stable. “You get where I’m going with it,” he said via an arrest report from the NSBPD. “Your not stupid. At least you don’t seem stupid.” The conversation also appeared to reference a potential motive. Cimms was said to have mentioned, “The feds f–ked up taking down Lucas”. According to police, this refers to Lucas Nevcherlian, a friend of Cimms’s who was arrested in October for alleged anti-Semitic threats. As it turns out, Cimms was investigated last year for conversations with Nevcherlian in which the two allegedly discussed hate crimes and potential mass killings. Both men are said to have shared a bigoted ideology. Last year Cimms reportedly critiqued “This tyranny that has infected the human race since the dawn of the Jews”. The NSBPD’s Criminal Investigations Division investigated Cimms’ ongoing communications alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Cimms was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on Thursday without bond. “The safety of our community is our highest priority,” said New Smyrna Beach Police Chief Chris Kirk. “We take every threat seriously and appreciate the swift collaboration between our detectives, the FBI, Edgewater Police Department, Port Orange Police Department, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, and everyone who came forward to report this concerning information. If you see something suspicious, report it immediately. Public vigilance plays a critical role in keeping our community safe.”
