Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood is suing the promoters of unpermitted events in Daytona Beach last month. Since promotion began, Chitwood has criticized the events as being disruptive and costly to the area. “If you come here and you promote an unsanctioned, unpermitted event, we’re coming after you civilly,” Chitwood said during a Friday news conference. Chitwood is partnering with attorney Aaron Delgado in his quest for damages from the event promoters. Delgado runs Aaron Delgado & Associates, a Daytona Beach-based law firm. Over the course of spring break in Daytona Beach, several events led to reports of overcrowding, stampeding, and even a few shootings. 133 arrests were made by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office during the first week of events. The defendants in the suit, which was filed on Tuesday, are Aliyah Brooks and Brittany Plummer. Chitwood and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office have accused the duo, who are event promoters, of being responsible for ‘chaos’ in and around Daytona Beach. Both Brooks and Plummer are listed as residents of Georgia in the lawsuit complaint. They’re tied to ‘Daytona Spring Break 2K26 (Invasion)’, an unsanctioned spring break event widely circulated on social media. Chitwood is seeking over $50,000 in damages from the defendants. That’s a far cry from the several hundreds of thousands of dollars the Sheriff’s Office reportedly spent on ensuring public safety during spring break.
