The people moving Volusia County into the future will have an opportunity to display their drive and ingenuity at an upcoming community event. The Volusia Innovation Challenge is coming up in March, with the application deadline approaching at the end of the month. Those encouraged to apply include entrepreneurs, ‘innovators, and small business owners’ according to a release from the Volusia County government. As they participate, entrants will have the chance to present their big ideas for a shot at $10,000 for the grand prize winner. “The Volusia Innovation Challenge is more than a competition – it’s a catalyst for entrepreneurs ready to grow,” said Volusia Economic Development Director Lou Paris. “Past participants have raised over $50 million in investment capital, appeared on Fox’s Billion Dollar Idea, and grown companies from zero revenue to seven figures. These journeys all started with submitting an application.” The challenge will take place on Wednesday, March 25 at the Ocean Center Convention Complex in Daytona Beach. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents 18 years or older. Also required is that applicants reside, operate a business, or attend school in Volusia County. Businesses being submitted are limited to $100,000 or less in annual revenue. A Volusia County business address must be included in applications. “This competition has become the premier event of its type in our area,” added Jack Phifer, a certified SCORE Volusia Flagler mentor. “I’ve seen people from all parts of our community apply and succeed. Don’t sit on the sidelines – get in the game!” Applications can be submitted now online. The deadline to apply is Saturday, January 31 at 11:59 p.m.
