DeLand, FL - A registered sex offender in DeLand is charged with sexual battery on a child after a tip about child pornography revealed he abused a young girl. Investigators with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) Child Exploitation Unit were alerted to the case by a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in early March. The material included with the tip involved young female victims between ages 3 and 7 shown in sexually explicit situations. According to detectives, 48-year-old Wes Brough—a registered sex offender in DeLand—was seen in several videos sexually abusing a 4 to 5-year-old girl. Deputies later executed a search warrant on April 6th at Brough’s 3030 Marsh Road home. While he was being questioned, Brough reportedly confessed to seeking and viewing child pornography and identified the girl shown with him in the videos. He then stated that he had inappropriate conduct with the victim numerous times, the latest being April 2nd. Deputies say Brough—who was designated a sex offender following a May 1997 conviction for child molestation—first registered as a sex offender with VSO on October 12th, 2020. However, deputies state that Brough failed to register vehicles he is authorized to drive. Brough additionally failed to update vehicle information on a homemade trailer on his Marsh Road property. Brough was arrest on April 6th and current remains in the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond, charged with sexual battery on a child and child pornography possession. The sheriff’s office added that more charges are possible as detectives search for additional potential victims. Anyone who may have been a victim of this suspect or any similar case is urged to call the Child Exploitation Unit at (386) 323-3574.
