A Volusia County man has been arrested in connection to a bizarre and disturbed attack against two teenagers in DeBary, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday. 39-year-old Marquevis Chance is accused of pistol-whipping a 17-year-old boy and forcing both him and his girlfriend of the same age to take off their clothes. The incident was said to have occurred Monday evening at a tiny community park on Lazio Circle and Kalin Street in DeBary, just next to Konomac Lake. Sometime around 7:45 pm, the teenage couple said that a man approached them and slammed a handgun over the boy’s head. After the initial assault, the suspect was said to have pointed the gun at the girl. He reportedly told them each to take off their clothes, which he then took for himself. At this point, the suspect was said to have left. The boy who’d been pistol whipped was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for a laceration to his head, the VSO said. An investigation began, involving VSO deputies, K-9 units, the VSO Air One helicopter, and more. According to VSO detectives, the attack was retaliation for a previous incident that had occurred between Chance and a family member of one of the victims. At the culmination of the investigation, Chance turned himself in at the Volusia County Branch Jail. He was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and armed robbery. As of Tuesday he remains in custody with no bond.
