Limited Volunteers Opportunities Available With VCS

DeLand, FL – Volusia County Schools (VCS) is opening a limited number of volunteer opportunities beginning Monday, April 12. The relaxation of the CDC guidelines from six feet to three feet has made it possible to have a few more people in a classroom. Other CDC guidelines remain in effect including wearing a face-covering/mask, frequent handwashing, and staying home when sick. “We are glad to be able to gradually bring volunteers back into our schools,” said Dr. Scott Fritz, VCS Superintendent of Schools. “We know our students will benefit socially and emotionally by having the additional attention and a sense of returning to normalcy.” Classroom teachers will be allowed to utilize a limited number of volunteers, and the district will be able to match students with volunteer mentors. Those interested will need an approved application on file to volunteer. Because applications expire each year on June 30, if you didn’t submit an application for the current school year, you will need to do so. The volunteer application can be found at tinyurl.com/VIPSapplication.  VCS has strict safety and security practices and requires volunteers to sign-in on the visitor management system (Raptor). When visiting a school for the first time, a driver’s license or another form of official government identification must be provided.
