Daytona Beach, FL - Students graduating from Volusia County Schools (VCS) will now receive four tickets for their graduation ceremony as opposed to the original amount of two. A press release from the school district confirmed that after careful consideration of health and safety guidelines, capacity restrictions at the Ocean Center will be eased to allow for more attendees. During the graduation ceremonies, seating will be offered in pods of four, with three feet or more of distance between each "pod." "The Ocean Center recognizes the accomplishments of graduating high school seniors and is committed to providing the honor these events deserve, while also balancing the health and safety of all in attendance" said Ocean Center Director Tim Riddle. "As such, the facility has adjusted seating arrangements to allow for increased attendance, while also maintaining social distancing to the maximum extent possible. To further ensure the safety of all guests, we continue to require face masks be worn inside the facility." Local high schools will announce details on graduation ticket sales in the coming weeks. And with tickets limited to just four per high school senior, ceremonies will be livestreamed online so extended family may watch the ceremonies. Graduation ceremonies are slated to be held between June 3rd and 6th at the Ocean Center. Graduates and their guests will also be required to wear face-coverings and to socially distance to the greatest extent possible. The ceremony schedule is available online, but dates are subject to change because of the pandemic. This comes almost a week after local adults and teens approached the Volusia County Council to ask for a capacity increase.
