Governor – Eligibility Changes Coming Soon

Jacksonville, FL – During a stop today at a Jacksonville Walgreens to announce that more locations are opening up across Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis said with the increase of COVID-19 vaccine doses coming into the state, he expects the eligibility requirements to open up. He said the multiple retail options will make a huge difference in the vaccination numbers. "We do the 60, next, lowering the age to 55. I will announce that hopefully, relatively soon.  Once we do the 55 and up, we probably would be able to really open it up more broadly if the supply continues." DeSantis said that by the time this weekend is over, about 60 percent of seniors in Florida will have been vaccinated. He said that’s about 3 million people. He said the federal pharmacy program gives us more opportunities and makes it a lot easier for people to make an appointment, reminding that at first, getting an appointment was like winning the lottery.  When the age of eligibility drops to 60 years of age and up on Monday, March 15, DeSantis said that’s an additional 1.5 to 2 million people. He said there are multiple retail options to choose from. " I think these pharmacies are really going to play the dominant role in getting the shots into the arms. Walgreens.com, Publix.com, CVS.com, Walmart.com, and then WinnDixie.com. (Walgreens appointments won’t be available until Monday, March 15)
