Bike Week 2021 Is Officially Underway: Here’s What You Should Know

Daytona Beach, FL - The 80th running of Bike Week kicks off today in Daytona Beach, and things might look a bit different this year. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in mind, the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) and the City of Daytona Beach have made some changes to keep visitors and residents safe during Bike Week. One of those changes includes limiting curbside parking, especially at Bike Week’s main hub, Main Street. According to the city, curbside parking will be limited to allow for proper physical distancing. Overflow parking will be available and, thanks to a deal with the Ocean Center, patrons may park at designated parking lots near the Ocean Center. Outdoor parking is $5 per bike and $10 for indoor parking on the weekends. Traffic on Main Street will also be limited to bikes only. In addition to parking changes, some merchants will also limit their indoor capacity to 60 percent. Residents and visitors are also encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by practicing social distancing and wearing a face covering or face mask, as there are no local mandates for it. "We’re not out there looking to watch how close people are standing together," said Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young at a Thursday (March 4th) press conference. "That’s what the safety plan is supposed to do." Residents and visitors should also expect heavy traffic throughout the city during Bike Week. Throughout the event, large crowds are expected—especially at night—in areas like International Speedway Boulevard, Main Street, North Beach Street, and Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard. Heavy pedestrian foot traffic should also be expected in areas near the Daytona Beach International Speedway, Seabreeze Boulevard, the Ocean Walk, and Downtown Daytona. Police would also like to remind attendees that excessive noise from loud pipes is prohibited, and motorcycles must have mufflers.
