Gas Prices Inch Down After Period of Increases

The latest figures on gas prices across the state of Florida show that the average cost of a gallon of gas is finally starting to inch downward, following a period of consistent increases. The data, released by AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins, shows a 16-cent decrease over a one-week span in the average cost of gas, followed by a nine-cent jump back up, leaving Florida motorists with a seven-cent decrease in the aggregate. The average cost of a gallon of gas in Florida was listed at $3.57 as of Sunday, according to Jenkins. That price is three cents below the mark this time last month, and a dime cheaper than this time last year. The peaks in recent gas prices, reached in 2022, are still well over a dollar more expensive than where prices are now. Locally, prices are just about in-line with the statewide average. Flagler County’s average gas price is $3.57, exactly average, while Volusia County sports a $3.56 average cost. The national average is $3.65, a hair more costly than Florida’s numbers. In the area, the Buc-ee’s off I-95 at LPGA Blvd in Daytona Beach has the cheapest publicly available gas, at $3.39 a gallon as of Monday. Those with memberships to Sam’s Club across the street can do even better, with $3.19 a gallon at their pumps. For Flagler County residents, the cheapest gas in town is technically over the border into Ormond Beach, but still well on the Flagler side of the area: the 7-Eleven on Roscommon Drive off Old Dixie Highway is selling gas for $3.46 as of Monday.
