Mainland Football Coach Travis Roland Leaves for Georgia Job

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Travis Roland, the head football coach of Mainland High School for their state championship last year, will be departing his post to take a coaching job in Georgia. Roland will become the new head coach of Camden County High School, located in Kingsland, Georgia. Roland coached Mainland for three seasons, posting a 30-10 record and a coveted state championship. His career record is 58-22, having also coached for four years at Flagler Palm Coast High School before taking the Mainland job. Already respected for his tenure at FPCHS, Roland became something of a folk hero for Mainland’s storybook championship run. He’ll replace Camden County’s Jeff Herron, who announced he was retiring last month. Herron coached Camden County into the state semifinals last year, having already won three state championships in his career to that point. The conclusion of Roland’s time at Mainland marks the end of a storybook journey in more ways than one. He captured the attention of the community during last year’s run, but he also attended Mainland High School himself. Roland was a star player for Mainland’s football team, becoming their all-time single-season tackle leader. Though his career is certain to reach new heights in Georgia, Roland’s connection to Daytona Beach will make him forever remembered in the story of Volusia County high school sports.
