FCSO K-9 Valor Goes Into Retirement

Bunnell, FL – Flagler County Sheriff’s Office K-9 deputy Valor is going into early retirement after three years and three months of dedicated service. He retires at the advice of the agency’s veterinarian, due to a blood disorder. K-9 Valor was born on March 31, 2016, and started his career with FCSO in May of 2017.  He is a dual-purpose K-9 helping deputies search for narcotics and keep the streets of Flagler County safe. Valor’s been deployed 209 times, recovered over 4,200 grams of illegal narcotics, and made 28 criminal apprehensions. K-9 Valor’s handler, Deputy First-Class Gib Smith, said his partner has made a great impact on everyone who has had the opportunity to meet him at multiple community events.  “It is always bittersweet when any member of the FCSO family retires,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “K-9 Valor has gone above and beyond the call of duty and we are going to miss him on the team. He is a very good boy and I hope he enjoys his special retirement bone and his retirement!” K-9 Valor will live with Smith and his family.
