DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Volusia Sheriff’s Office has received the resignation of two training deputies, following accusations that they improperly had sex with a recruit. The incident was reportedly revealed via an anonymous Instagram post, and subsequently reported in The Daytona Beach News-Journal. Multiple representatives of the VSO, including Sheriff Mike Chitwood, have confirmed that the incident did indeed occur, and that the deputies had resigned. More action is reportedly possible against the pair. An investigation began after Chitwood learned on July 4th that the two deputies were having a personal relationship with a recruit, according to the News-Journal’s report. Chitwood has confirmed the relationship was consensual, but violated several of the VSO’s policies. He also said no evidence was found that the relationship had been used toward favoritism. The two deputies, Enmanual Pena and Sean McRae, will be reported to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for their alleged misconduct. Pena reportedly had sex with the recruit on-premises at the facility where training occurs, while McRae conducted a relationship outside the academy. The recruit herself will remain on with the VSO, according to Chitwood, and continue to pursue her career in law enforcement.
