19-Year-Old Arrested For Attempted Murder After Firing At SUV

Port Orange, FL - A 19-year-old Port Orange teen is facing multiple charges after he fired multiple shots at an SUV early Sunday morning (November 29th). According to a report from the Port Orange Police Department (POPD), the victim and two other teenage females decided to meet at the Tumblebrook Drive home of Dalton Ames around 2:00 in the morning. As the group was hanging out, Ames produced a pistol and began to play with it in front of the group. Reports indicate that Ames was waving the handgun around while taking pictures with it. At some point, Ames also pointed the pistol in the direction of the victim. After the group grew uncomfortable with Ames’ behavior, they decided to leave. As they were leaving, two other males arrived at the residence and the two females decided to ride with them, instead of sharing a vehicle with Ames. As they were leaving, Ames became irate and started to yell at the male driver because the females decided to ride in a different vehicle. Uncomfortable with his behavior yet again, the male victim decided to bring Ames back to his residence. When the pair arrived back at Ames’ house, Ames exited the vehicle, went inside and grabbed his gun before firing two shots at the SUV as it drove away. Police met up with the victim and his father later that day around 4:00 in the afternoon after the father found two bullet holes in his vehicle. He told police that his son was using the vehicle at the time of the incident and the person who shot it was his son’s acquaintance, Ames. Police later obtained a search warrant for Ames’ home in order to locate the firearm. Around midnight on Monday (November 30th), officers executed the search warrant and took Ames into custody. He has since been charged with a multitude of charges, including: attempted murder, firing into an occupied vehicle, violation of probation (for a prior incident of fleeing and eluding), tampering with evidence, and multiple pending narcotics charges for drugs found within Ames’ home. He currently remains in Volusia County Jail where he is kept without bond.
