As of Saturday morning (November 7th), President Donald Trump’s chances of securing another term seem to be shrinking as he remains the frontrunner in only two states, North Carolina and Alaska. This comes after the campaign filed numerous lawsuits to stop vote counting in states where Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leads. One recent lawsuit filed by the incumbent’s campaign on Thursday (November 5th) sought to stop the count in Philadelphia, arguing that poll watchers were not allowed to observe the count. The request was ultimately denied. This, however, did not stop the Republicans from making any legal headway The following day, the Republican Party of Pennsylvania requested that the U.S. Supreme Court stop the count of any late-arriving ballots in Pennsylvania. Justice Samuel Alito Jr. eventually weighed in on the issue and, while he did not order a complete stop to the count, he did issue an order to segregate the late arrivals, essentially putting the ballots in limbo until further orders are issued by the nation’s high court. But, despite Alito’s order, state election officials reported that they were already setting aside those ballots, which have been arriving since Election Day. The legal challenges might not be enough though, as time is running out for the Trump campaign. At the time of this writing, Biden continues to lead in Georgia and Pennsylvania. Both of those states are incredibly crucial to Trump’s chances of winning another term as president. And even if the president does secure those states once again, he will still have to claim Nevada as well. (See: "Fight For 270"). He still leads in North Carolina, but the 15 electoral votes the state has, along with the three electoral votes Alaska has—which will most likely go to the president since he currently holds a 62.1 to 33.5% lead there—won’t be enough to bring him remotely close to securing 270 votes. The president plans to speak from Philadelphia at 11:30 a.m.
