80th Bike Week Could Be Off To Wet Start

Daytona Beach, FL - In just a few short days, Daytona Beach will kick off Bike Week as the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a wet start to the event’s 80th running. As of Wednesday afternoon, forecasters at the NWS Melbourne office say Friday (March 5th) is expected to start off with very decent conditions with a high near 73 degrees and light winds in the morning. However, as Friday progresses rain chances are forecast to increase to a 40 percent chance of showers during the nighttime hours. Come Saturday (March 6th), forecasters expect a low pressure center to develop over the Gulf of Mexico, bringing with it a—as of Wednesday afternoon—70 percent chance of rain throughout the day. According to a hazardous weather outlook from the NWS, there is a chance that a few of Saturday’s storms could become strong as the low and associated cold front crosses the state. Highs on Saturday are expected to hit 65 degrees with lows expected to hover near 53 degrees. Thankfully, the rest of the outlook from Sunday to Tuesday predicts sunny conditions and cooler temps—highs are expected to hover between 70 and 65 degrees and lows are forecast to hang around 53 and 56 degrees. There is a chance for winds to pick up from Saturday night to Tuesday, with Sunday’s forecast calling for a north northeast wind of 15 to 20 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph.
