Two women have been arrested for reportedly selling human remains, law enforcement has confirmed. 52-year-old Kymberlee Schopper and 32-year-old Ashley Lelesi are both owners of a local business called Wicked Wonderland. According to reports about the case, which has received national attention, police first began investigating the women’s oddity shop in December 2023. A tip was placed to the Orange City Police Department that human remains were being sold from the business. Commerce of human remains is not criminalized at the federal level, but it is illegal in state law. Further reports on the situation say that the pair were selling a two pieces of a human skull for $90, a clavicle and scapula for $90, a rib for $35, and a portion of a skull for $600. The bones were reportedly advertised for sale on Facebook Marketplace. An analysis by the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office theorizes that the remains represent “two different individuals — one of possible archaeological origin and the other of anatomical origin.” Both suspects were charged with purchase or sale of human organs/tissue, with bond set at $7,500.
