The Volusia Sheriff’s Office arrested a Deltona resident on Tuesday after an alleged road rage shooting, the agency announced. 29-year-old Taylor Taft is in custody on three criminal charges without bond as of Wednesday. According to the VSO, the shooting took place on SR-415 in the Osteen area at around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The victim called reporting that a white Honda Civic cut him off in traffic, before brake-chacking him and swerving in front of him. At one point, the Civic driver is said to have brandished a Glock handgun. He allegedly pointed it at the victim. The victim then reportedly accelerated to get away from the Civic. He’s said to have heard a loud pop before one of his rear tires started losing air pressure. The victim then pulled over to call law enforcement. The incident was investigated by analysts at the Volusia County Crime Center. A Civic matching the description of the one from the incident was identified, and analysts determined it belonged to Taylor Taft. Deputies went to Taft’s Deltona residence and interviewed him. Taft is said to have admitted that the road rage incident occurred, but told deputies that there was no shooting. Further investigation of the victim’s tire turned up a round hole in the rear tire with bullet spalling fragments visible in the area. A search warrant was obtained for Taft’s residence. In his bedroom, deputies reportedly found a Glock 48 handgun with a loaded ten-round magazine. Following the discovery of the handgun, Taft was arrested. He’s been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. He remains in custody as of Wednesday at the Volusia County Branch Jail. Taft has no arrest records in Volusia County prior to Tuesday’s incident.
